Using Video to Drive Traffic to Your Website – 9 Tips to Help You Get Started
by DeAnna Troupe

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you have noticed that videos are all the rage online. After you read this article, you’ll have some tips to get you started marketing your website with this awesome tool.

1. Be brief. People on the Internet have a notoriously short attention span. 5 minutes is the longest you should go. Also most sites have a limit on how much space your media can take up.

2. Be sure to use music that isn’t copyrighted. Just go to Google and type in podsafe music to find music that you can use.

3. Use content that will interest the types of people you want to visit your website. If your site is about real estate something about dancing wouldn’t get you the best results (unless of course the people dancing are realtors).

4. Be sure to write down what you want to say in your presentation. You don’t have to write everything down verbatim. Just make a few notes so you don’t forget the key points that you want to address.

5. Tell everybody you know about your video. Post it on twitter, post it to your blog, post in to Facebook, post your content wherever people let you post visual media.

6. Always start of with your name. It’s best to assume that the people watching your visual presentation are seeing you for the first time. Even if people have subscribed to your channel and seen you more than once, if you repeat your name people will remember who you are more.

7. Always mention your website. I know this seems pretty obvious, but it’s worth mentioning. I know most of you probably put the website in your profile. That’s a good start. Always, always mention your url in your video. This way if someone likes what they see and decides to embed it in their site, you get traffic from that piece. It’s important to be able to get traffic from your masterpiece no matter where it is being viewed from.

8. Whenever possible name drop. In other words, be sure to mention the names of experts in your work of art if these people are directly related to what you’re doing. Maybe this particular expert inspired you to create videos in the first place. This will add to your credibility and possibly draw the attention of the particular expert you’re mentioning.

9. Don’t just focus on YouTube. I know YouTube is the granddaddy of all video sharing sites, but you should consider other sites.

Visual presentations are a great way to get people to your website. It’s important that you use your name at least once in each presentation you record. Also be sure to mention your url at least once in the video.
